A Place with Memory
Domaine La Chênaie has been shaped by the hands of those who came before.
Commissioned in 1843 by Henri-Joseph Verheyden and designed by Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar, the villa was built as a country retreat at a time when the relationship between architecture and landscape was taken seriously as a form of art.
The Natural Reserve
Bordering the estate to the north, the Eikelenberg natural reserve extends across an ancient ironstone ridge once home to a medieval hilltop church and burial ground.
Managed as a protected habitat, it supports rare acid-grassland flora, woodland bird species, and a landscape largely unchanged in centuries. Residents are welcome to walk its paths.
From the highest point, on a clear day, the towers of Brussels are visible to the west and the spire of Sint-Rombouts Cathedral in Mechelen to the north.
